Seasonal Activities in Central Virginia: Summer

June 28, 2021

Summer is finally here! The kids are out of school, the beaches are ready to be filled, and good luck finding a tee time. If you are a local to Central Virginia, you already know that the list of summer activities is endless in this area. If you are new to the area, or maybe just looking for some more things to do, we here at the Miller Financial Group are excited to roll out a new blog series: Seasonal Activities in Central Virginia. Jim and Elizabeth were asked a series of questions to give our clients some of their favorite activities throughout the seasons here in Charlottesville and the surrounding Central Virginia area. So, let us start with the warmest season, Summer.

Q: What is the best activity for a family looking to spend quality time together on the weekend?

Elizabeth: One thing that my family and I enjoy is going out to the Chiles Family Peach Orchard in Crozet. The main attraction is picking peaches of course, but they have plenty of other fun activities to take part in as well. Also, King Family Vineyard in Crozet is a great place to go any day of the week for a day filled with fun. Beyond the wine tasting and beautiful views, you can enjoy a local food truck each Wednesday, Saturday, or Sunday, a picnic on their lawn or patio, and they even have a live polo match every Sunday afternoon from Memorial Day weekend to mid-October.

Q: What if you are single and looking to have fun with your friends?

Jim: If I had to choose one thing to tell you, I would say floating the Rivanna or James River. There is nothing better than getting your tube out on a hot summer day and relaxing with a cold one in hand as the current takes you and your friends down the river.

Q: Where is a good place to take your significant other in the evenings?

Jim: Every Thursday at Carter Mountain just outside Charlottesville they have the Sunset Series at Carter Mountain. This event entails live music, food trucks, Carter Mountain Wine, and one of the best views of a sunset Charlottesville has to offer. My wife and I like to try and go once or twice a month during the summer just to take a moment to relax and get away from our daily stresses. It is really a great experience for any couple looking to get away for a midweek break.

Before we leave you, we want to ask an important question. What do you like to do in Central Virginia? Please let us know on our Facebook page. Feel free to even share pictures of you partaking in the activity! We look forward to seeing you throughout the summer at all the many places and events that Central Virginia has to offer!
